

Janice Kay Blackwill was a beloved wife, devoted teacher, cherished friend and loving stepmother, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2024. Born on June 16, 1948 in Long Beach to LauVion and Clarence Long, Janice’s life was a testament to love, dedication and joyful living.
Janice was an only child, but her bond with her cousin Kalyn, who affectionately called her “Bunny" was as strong as any sisterly relationship. They grew up spending Norman Rockwell summers together with their grandmother in Sutter, CA creating lifelong memories. Their bond only grew stronger as they spent time traveling with their spouses and supporting each other throughout life’s journey.
She pursued her higher education at Chico State University, where she formed an enduring friendship with a special group of women, affectionately known as the Chico Chicks. Their friendship has spanned over 55 years, the result of the deep connections they forged during their college years. They made it a point to get together and share a chicks weekend every year.
Professionally, Janice was a passionate deaf education teacher for 33 years in the Little Lake School District. Her commitment to her students and innovative teaching methods earned her the prestigious title of LA County Teacher of the Year. She touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on her students and colleagues alike.
Outside of her professional life, Janice had a passion for fun, travel, golf, and pickleball and was a heck of a ping pong player. She embraced each activity with enthusiasm and a competitive spirit and the many adventures were filled with laughter and countless memories. Janice loved hosting dinner parties for her friends and family. Her “Jammin’ Js Jalapeño Jelly” was a favorite for all those who tried it.
Above all, Janice was a devoted wife to husband Delwin for 40 wonderful years of marriage. He often said that he absolutely loved every day spent with Janice She was also a loving stepmother to Bill, Sheri and Christy, always showing them kindness, love and support.
Janice will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, friendship and dedication will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to be a part of her life.
Janice is survived by her step-son William Blackwill (Justina), step-daughter Sheri Harder (Duane), grandchildren Amber Rojas (Jeffrey), Dale Harder, Matthew Blackwill (Haley), Michael Blackwill (Faith), Alexandria Blackwill (Remi) and Luke Blackwill and great grandchildren Kobalt and Slate Rojas and Bryce, Ella and Hayden Blackwill.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janice’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Little Lake City School District, Janice Blackwill Memorial Fund and mailed to 10515 South Pioneer Blvd., Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670.
A memorial service to celebrate Janice’s life will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 1:00pm at Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, located at 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA in the Hillside Chapel (enter through gate 17), with a reception to follow at Candlewood Country Club. Family and friends are invited to attend and share their memories of a remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
A memorial service for Janice will be held Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Hillside Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.
