Commodore Geronimo M Cabal, born on May 4, 1918 in Ivana, Batanes, Philippines, was the first Ivatan alumnus of the Philippine Military Academy Class 44 and first Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard. He was the only one in class ’44 who attained the rank of Commodore (Brigadier General). He earned his Bachelors of Law in 1964 and finished a naval course at the Royal Naval College in London. Prior to his retirement from active duty service, he was the Commander of Southwest Command in Zamboanga, Philippines. He was elected delegate to the Constitutional Convention, and this culminated his 30 years stint in the government service, rising from the ranks to Commodore of the Philippine Navy.
