Garey George Shell was born on December 25,1939 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Ralline and Lester Shell. He passed away on November 25, 2012 in his home in West Covina, California. In his 72 years he was a well loved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend to many.
Garey spent the majority of his life in Southern California. He grew up in East Los Angels and graduated from Montebello High School in 1958. He loved the beach and was an avid body surfer. Garey enlisted in the US Army in 1960. During his time in the military he served as a missile crewman at a remote site in Alaska. He was awarded the good conduct, sharpshooter and expert marksman medals. He was very proud that he had the opportunity to serve his country.
After the military, Garey came home to California and began working as a machinist in the chemical milling industry. He married Noelle Riley on Valentines Day 1970. They raised 2 daughters, Kimberly and Kathleen, who were his greatest pride.
In retirement, Garey liked just being home and enjoyed watching TV. He was very knowledgeable about sports and his favorites to watch were college football and tennis. He and Noelle also enjoyed an occasional getaway to Las Vegas or a local casino for games of blackjack and keno.
Garey absolutely adored his grandchildren: Megan, Evan, Matthew, Nikki and Ryan. He never missed one of their birthday parties and loved watching them grow up. He was proud of all of their accomplishments and enjoyed attending many of their sporting events.
Garey truly brightened our lives and will be greatly missed.
