She attended the Rock Island schools and became interested in sports at an early age. She started playing organized softball when she was 9 years old. Her first game was with the Peoria Redwings in 1949 and other teams of the AAGPBL. Her career was cut short when she sustained a severe injury. She was so proud of her career in the AAGPBL and attended the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York on November 5, 1988.
She came to California in 1959 and worked on all space shuttles at Rockwell Inc. She also worked on the B-1 B bomber and is proud of having worked on the Apollo 11 that went to the moon and all the space programs at Rockwell during those years.
She met her future husband Ernest Thompson at the Rockwell Co. who was an engineer and working on the B-1 B planes. They married on June 30, 1968. He died in an auto accident while driving to work on June 4, 1984.
Beverly took care of her mother Doris until her death in 2002.
A visitation for Beverly will be held Sunday, April 17, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Rose Hills Mortuary, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601. A funeral service will occur Monday, April 18, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Hillside Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.
Beverly will be laid to rest in Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601; Lupine Lawn; Gate: 1, Section: 20, Lot: 3768, Grave: 2.
