She was born in Manila, Philippines on July 7, 1931. She grew up in Tondo, Manila and was the fifth of seven siblings. At the age of 10, along with her siblings and her mother, she survived the Japanese occupation and WWII but sadly lost her father during that time.
She attended Philippine Women’s University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. After graduation, she became a high school teacher and taught Home Economics with pride and joy for 25 years until she retired from teaching before emigrating from the Philippines.
She met her husband Gary Coronel while she was going to college and married him in 1957, two years after graduating. Beatriz and Gary started a family and had 6 beautiful children. They lived in San Francisco del Monte, Quezon City, Manila where they raised their young family for many years before immigrating to the United States.
After immigrating to the United States in 1981, she worked at Mattel for a short time before working in the Rowland Unified School district in Rowland Heights, California as a food service worker. The following summer they bought a home in Walnut, California and she began working at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles for 12 tireless years until her second and final retirement in 1994 after her husband passed away.
Beatriz was selfless and poised. She was kind, patient, not easily angered and resilient, always willing to forgive. She was always ready and willing to provide for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren without hesitation and with all that she had to give, never asking for anything in return. She was a devout catholic who taught her children the importance of God and prayer.
She loved being with her family, from gathering for a family meal to celebrating birthdays, life’s big moments, and even for just because. She loved teaching, gardening, and decorating. She enjoyed traveling and taking trips with her family, from road trips to places abroad. Always looking forward to the next adventure, sights to be seen and memories to be made.
After 94 beautiful years on this earth, she is survived by her six children, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
