He was born in Jalisco, Mexico on January 23, 1953 and was the third of eleven children. He met his wife, Rita, in Jalisco, Mexico and they were wed on May 22, 1972. They welcomed their first child in July 1973 and went on to have a total of five sons and one daughter. After having their second child, they moved to Los Angeles, California in 1975. It was at this time that Lupe started his 45-year career as a cook at the Bear Pit. Lupe established himself as a hard-working provider for his family by also starting his gardening business around this same time, and continued gardening well after retiring from the Bear Pit.
His greatest achievement was supporting his children with all their endeavors from childhood into adulthood, and seeing them all obtain successful careers and happy, healthy families. He loved spending time with each of his twelve grandchildren, and could be seen cheering them on at various sporting events and attending their school functions.
Lupe was always in good spirits and had an infectious smile, and people couldn’t help but smile in return. He was always so welcoming, and he will be greatly missed by all of his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rita and their six children, Jose Francisco (Paco) and his wife Michelle, Margarita and her husband Mike, Jose (Pepe) and his wife Terri, Jesus and his wife Hanna, Pablo and his wife Cate, and David and his wife Jocelyn. He also leaves behind his dear grandchildren Nicholas, Lucas, Nathan, Sophia, Jacob, Liam, Samuel, Olivia, Adrian, Mia, Isabel, and Camila.
His family would like to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for all of the love, support and strength you’ve shown during this incredibly difficult time. Losing Lupe has left a space in our hearts that can never be filled, but your kindness and unity has been a true source of comfort.
