Dear Jon,
We're thankful to have known you will miss your baked treats, getting to be at your house for small group (thanks for hosting!) and seeing your garden creations, and enjoying Bible study and food together.  We'll miss seeing you sitting at the back of the sanctuary taking it all in, and chatting.  Yet, we know you are wholly healed in the Lord now, enjoying His presence!

It’s indeed a blessing to have walked with Jonathan on this sojourner journey in the last several years. He is now in a better place, and along with many others, I will dearly miss him until meeting him again in due time. 

Despite all his health struggles, Jonathan was content, and even joyful, with his conditions, and caring towards others. Below are two of his text messages to treasure and share.

After being discharged from his hospitalization before the pandemic, Jonathan texted me, “Feeling good today. More energy, easier to get up & down the stairs now that I lost the equivalent of carrying two twins (LOL). I’ve got an appetite back, enough to go this weekend to go to AYCE (all you can eat) Korean BBQ this Sunday.” 

And another text during the pandemic: “Thanks for checking in! I’m doing ok, recovering from my ‘Angiogram’ procedure. They put 2 stents in my arteries to my heart. One more will be needed to the 3rd artery. The wife won’t let me go out anywhere other than the dialysis center & home. Just been watching a lot of tv shows on Netflix. Need to get back on the treadmill ro [sic] get some cardio. Sorry to hear about your ‘gout’ to much rich food while your at home…… LOL. Take your ‘Allopurinol’ med everyday or eat a lot of cherries since they are in season. Hopefully I’ll see u at church once we can return!”

We finally returned to in-person church services starting about 15 months ago. And Jonathan quietly shone with his courage and bravery, coming to Sunday services in person regularly even though he could simply consider himself at high risk and choose to join in virtually. 

In a time of loss like this, only the Lord can be our true comforter. And He does comfort us, “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

My sincere and deepest condolences to the whole family. Jonathan was a wonderful and dedicated servant of God, and I am humbled to have known him. May you find peace and comfort during this time,
