1985 - 2024
Eric James Wong, beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend, drew his last breath and entered eternity at the age of 38 on Friday, March 8, 2024 while in Los Angeles, CA.
Born on July 6, 1985 in San Diego, CA, Eric was the youngest child to Kung Cheuk and Li Ming Wong. Though his older brother, Willis, was wary of Eric upon their introduction, the brothers were quick to become lifelong best friends and confidants.
Eric was born with a curious, intelligent mind, and was always eager to learn and to excel. Since his early years, Eric demonstrated his gift in piano and ping pong; he was able to master both immediately and naturally. Growing up with extended family on the same cul-de-sac in El Cajon, CA, Eric’s youth was immersed in continuous family gatherings that fostered deep friendships between he and his cousins. The incredibly strong bonds united them in such a way that they regarded each other as actual siblings growing up. Eric enjoyed being a part of the high school tennis team where he learned about the value of teamwork, persistence, and commitment. Eric graduated valedictorian at Valhalla High School in 2003, and then went on to attend UC Berkeley where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences in 2007. Eric showcased his talent, expertise, and brilliance when he joined Avanade in 2007, then Capital Group in 2020. Eric loved museums, history, and classical music, but above all, the time shared with family and friends. His travels to the Bay Area, New York, and China either to visit those he loved or to share a good adventure with them were often fondly recounted with a smile on his face and an unforgettable enthusiasm in his voice.
Eric will be forever loved for his quick wit, humor, authenticity, and integrity, while his legacy of hard work, dedication to loved ones, and goodness will be remembered by all who were blessed to know him. On March 8, 2024, the world became less bright. Eric will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his spirit will live on as a testimony to all the good things he was able to accomplish during his lifetime and all the wonderful ways that he impacted those around him.
Eric is survived by his devoted parents, Kung Cheuk and Li Ming; his forever proud brother, Willis and wife Mylynn; numerous extended family members, including uncles, aunts, cousins, and nieces; and many, many friends.
A viewing followed by a funeral service will be held from 1 pm to 4pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the Hua Yuan at Rose Hills located at 3890 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601. Flowers may be sent to Hua Yuan or donations may be made in honor of Eric to your favorite arts or cultural center.
