Charles “Norm” Norman Scully passed away on Feb. 22, 2011 at his home in Sequim. He was born to Edna Mae & Charles Norman Scully, Sr. on April 20, 1916 in Philadelphia, PA and was raised in Washington Crossing, PA. In 1933, he moved to California to attend California Institute of Technology where he received a Master’s Degree in Chemistry. He served in Pacific theatre with the Marines during WWII, commanded an anti-aircraft battery on Eastern Is. during the battle of Midway and retired as a Lt. Col. He spent many years working as an astrophysicist and optical laser engineer for; North American Aviation, Rockwell and Rocketdyne. His numerous contributions to science include; micro-meteorite impact research for space vehicles, several contributions to the space shuttle program and mentoring future scientists in his community. He had a photographic memory and with an IQ of over 200 he was used to evaluate IQ tests.
He married Marie Coletta on Feb. 13th, 1955. They had two children; Brian & Lynanne. Brian predeceased Norm & Marie in 1976. In 1996 Norm and Marie left California and retired to Sequim, WA. Marie predeceased Norm in 2004. He is survived by his Daughter, Lynanne White of Poulsbo, Son-in-law and caregiver Daniel White, Half-brother Donald Scully of Sunrise, FL, four grandchildren; Carissa Bonham, Christopher Berg, Cambria Van Allman and Angelia White and three great-grandchildren; Elijah, Heidi and Kaypha. Internment was held at Rose Hills in Whittier, California and officiated by his Granddaughter Carissa Bonham.
