Wei-Shu (“Sue”) Chu Jan (曲衛紓), age 86, of Los Angeles, California passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Sue was born in Shandong, China. In the midst of the Cultural Revolution, she escaped with her parents to Taiwan when she was 11. She finished school in Taiwan, studied physical education, but also pursued fashion design. She excelled in sports, captained her teams in basketball and volleyball, and won bicycle races. She married Hsien Yun Jan in Taiwan, and emigrated to the US in the early 1960s. They had one daughter, Gloria.
Sue started her own business doing alterations, and later bought and operated a garment factory. After her husband passed in 1999, she discovered ballroom dancing, eventually teaching classes her own genre of ballroom line dancing and entering into ballroom dancing competitions.
She was a natural leader, fierce, clever, resilient and lucky, and rarely met a problem she could not solve. She loved to dance, and she loved to be outside, to go for long walks, and see mountains and flowers, birds and butterflies. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Wei-Shu will be laid to rest in Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601; Oceanview Terrace; Gate: 1, Section: 17, Lot: 1464, Grave: 4.
