She graduated from a Latin Seminary Bible College and went on to preach throughout the United States. Velma also served as a pastor in churches located in San Jose and Oakland, California.
She was married to Isaac Lara for 26 years until he went home to be with the Lord.
Velma is survived by her three sons: Gilbert, Tommy, and Jason, along with her grandchildren (Iris, Candy, and Jeanine), great-grandchildren (Gibby, Lexi, Destiny, Ariana, Serena, Bertie, Vinny, Breanna, and Austin), great-great-grandchildren (Joseph, Anthony, Rudolfo, Raymond, and Richie), her daughters-in-law (Gloria and Jonimae), as well as her siblings, her many nephews, nieces, and friends.
She was a very loving and kind mother who never had much but her riches are far more than we can imagine. Her unwavering faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, remains steadfast. Her love for God is strong. She walks on the streets of gold.
A visitation in chapel for Velma will be held Monday, July 8, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Memorial Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601, followed by a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
