Rex Yee, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away in Fairfax, Virginia on May 13, 2023, following complications from heart and kidney failure. Rex is survived by his children, Tracy (Marc) and Trina (William), grandchildren Maya Anne and Alexander, and his sister, Yuchi.
Rex was an active volunteer for the Confucius Chinese Language School in Walnut, California, serving as a founder, former principal, and board member for over 30 years. He also served on the board of the Southern California Council of Chinese Schools. He cared deeply about his local community, as well as global politics, and would happily engage anyone in conversation about these topics.
After working for over 40 years as an engineer, Rex spent his retirement traveling with Anne, continuing volunteer work, and even took drum lessons for a while. He delighted in seeing his grandchildren and doted on them whenever he could. In his downtime, he channel-surfed between MSNBC, John Wayne movies, military documentaries, and reruns of Two and a Half Men.
Rex was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He loved fiercely, and will be remembered for his grit, tenacity, and zest for life. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne, in late 2022, and her passing had a profound effect on his health. It is his family’s most fervent hope that he is reunited with her now.
Services will be held on June 10, 2023 from 1PM to 2PM at Rose Hills Mortuary - Memorial Chapel in Whittier, California, followed by a graveside burial.
