Soon Young was born into this world on March 28, 1948 in Seoul, South Korea, the first of 6 children of Jung Ja Ki and Chong Chun Hong.
Soon Young grew up in Seoul, attended and graduated from Seoul Women’s University. On May 9,1970 she married Suk (Joseph) Chung and immigrated with him to the United States, settling down initially in Southern California. In September of 1972, she welcomed her daughter Joann into the world. She and Suk relocated to Northern California, and in June of 1976 she welcomed her son Peter into the world. Soon Young devoted her life to raising and loving her family, working tirelessly in the family business, and also faithfully serving her church and her local community.
In June 1992, Soon Young and her husband earned their Masters of Divinity from Chong Shin College & Theological Seminary and moved to Los Angeles to enter into full-time ministry together. In 1995, Soon Young and her husband moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and for the next 23 years, served faithfully at the Sarang Church of Charlotte.
In 2018, Soon Young and Suk retired and relocated to Wildomar, California. She continued her life of ministry, love and faith to her neighbors in Wildomar, and also at Murrieta Korean Presbyterian Church, making many friends in her short time there. She attentively cared and loved for her husband Suk to the very end. She touched the lives of countless people, as a faithful wife, loving mother and grandmother, kind neighbor and good friend.
