Manuel A Rivas, 101 years old, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on November 24, 2019, at home in Pico Rivera, California.
A Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at Sky Rose Chapel, Rose Hills.
Funeral mass services will be held at 10:00 A.M on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at St Gregory the Great, Whittier. Burial will follow at Rose Hills cemetery. A celebration of life will follow the burial at A Mi Hacienda, Pico Rivera.
Manuel A Rivas was born in Phoenix, Arizona, to Max P Rivas and Marcelina Anaya Rivas on December 6, 1918. He attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Los Angeles. He married Mercedes Lara on May 28, 1944, at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Los Angeles, California. He worked as a warehouse, shipping and receiving manager for John W Koehl and West Coast Screen Company in the lumber and sawmill industry from 1946 to 1981, 35 years, from which he retired at 62 years of age. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army’s 161st Infantry, 25th Division. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, managed Rivera Baseball Association Little League baseball teams for 30 years, and received a Presidential Letter for his 100th birthday.
Manuel is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mercedes Rivas, his children Ernestine, son-in-law David, Estelle, and Manuel Jr., daughter-in-law Sharon, grandchildren Renee, Kris, Tony G, Tony T, Marc, Stephanie, great grandchildren Michael, Tere, Antoinette, Elizabeth, Emilie and great great grandson Zach, sister Olga Chavez, brother-in-law Manuel Chavez, sister Frances Sanchez, and brother Max Rivas, Jr., several nieces, nephews, great nieces, grand nephews, great great nieces and nephews..
Pallbearers will be Manuel Rivas, Jr., David Thelander, Tony Grizzell, Tony Thelander, Marc Rodriguez, Michael Shokuri.
