Larry was born and raised in Whittier, CA, with his 8 siblings. He attended the new high school in town, Cal-Hi. Larry was the star Quarterback for their football team, and a phenomenal basketball player as well. He was in the first graduating class at Cal-Hi in 1956, and later received a CIF lifetime pass to all of the school’s sporting events for his multi-lettering in varsity.
Larry was married in 1960, and joined the U.S. Air Force on May 5, 1960. He was stationed at Davis Airfield in Colorado Springs, where he welcomed his first child Lisa on January 27, 1961. Larry served our country for 4 years, and was honorably discharged on May 4, 1964. He and his family then moved back to Whittier and lived with grandma Corazón until they bought their first house on La Forge Street, across from Uncle Hank and Aunt Mary. Years later on October 7, 1976, Larry welcomed his son Orlando.
After the Air Force, Larry started his career in the auto industry, where he was Shop Steward and was a very involved UAW member. He later became a social worker, and ended his career as a youth counselor in Norwalk for the State of California.
Larry leaves behind to cherish his memory his sister, Reynalda Lopez; two children, Lisa Rodriguez and Orlando Flores; son-in-law Richard Rodriguez; five grandchildren, Celina Rodriguez, Robert Rodriguez, Joshua Rodriguez, Jonathan Rodriguez and Russell Flores; four great-grandchildren: Lilyana Esquero, Lila Esquero, Alexis Rodriguez, and Justin Rodriguez.
Larry was very proud to be a Cal-Hi Condor Alumni, he had lifelong friends from his high school days, and attended reunions annually. But nothing made him more proud than being an amazing father and Papa. His infectious smile, and ability to make anyone laugh anywhere will be greatly missed.
