With heavy hearts, we announce that Linda Alvizo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and confidant, has been welcomed into Heaven. Though our world is dimmed by her absence, we take comfort in knowing she has been renewed in eternal peace.
Linda was born to Antonio and Rafaela Diaz and was their only child. Tragically, she lost both parents to tuberculosis at a very young age and was lovingly raised by Guadalupe Diaz and Francisco Alvarez after they married. Francisco brought three children—Virginia, Salvador, and Rose—into the marriage, whom Linda, though she referred to them as her aunts and uncles, considered siblings. Linda spent her early years helping in the family-owned tortillería on Lorena Street, a place that shaped much of her childhood.
A proud graduate of Roosevelt High School, Linda furthered her education at East Los Angeles College. She briefly worked at Beneficial Insurance before marrying, Isaac Alvizo, on May 30, 1964, at the little church on Olvera Street. Together, they had four children: Armando, Gabriel, Marisa, and Aaron.
After years of devotedly managing the household, Linda re-entered the workforce in 1976 at Montebello Baptist School, where she initially supervised students during lunchtime. Her talents and nurturing spirit were soon recognized, leading her to assist Mrs. French in first grade and later collaborate with teachers like Miss Witchell, Diana Newton, and Mrs. Raya. When the school adopted an individualized learning approach, Linda was entrusted with teaching the Powerline reading program, helping struggling readers build confidence—a role in which she excelled. Linda wore many hats, from lunch aide to receptionist, always ready to lend a hand wherever needed.
Beyond her work and family life, Linda had a deep love for animals. Her heart was big enough to embrace creatures of all kinds, from dogs and cats to birds, snakes, and alligators. Her home was always filled with the joy and companionship of her many pets.
Linda is survived by her loving husband Isaac, her children Gabriel, Marisa and her husband James, Aaron and his wife Leticia, as well as her grandchildren Melinda, Sabrina, Nina, Allissa, Alijah, Elias, Jacob, Mikaela, and Bianca. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Jozelyn, Samuel, Hazel, Izaiah and Benjamin.
Linda and Isaac’s home was always a place of warmth and welcome, where family, friends, and children from the neighborhood and church found a place of refuge. They also welcomed Linda’s nieces, Eva and Elizabeth, into their home, embracing them as their own daughters.
Linda is predeceased by her son, Armando, and his wife, Monica, her niece Eva, and her grandson Eric.
Linda’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and unwavering faith. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
A visitation for Linda will be held Friday, September 6, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rose Hills Mortuary, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.
