Born on December 29, 1944, in Kangding, Sichuan, China, to Mo Tung Tung and Lien Ngo Hsiao, Ker Ting faced adversity at a young age when his family was forced to relocate to Taiwan in 1949 due to the civil war in China. Despite these challenges, he excelled academically, starting first grade at the age of four and graduating from high school at sixteen. Following high school, he enrolled in the Taiwan Naval Academy, from which he graduated in 1965.
Ker Ting's distinguished naval career was marked by numerous achievements. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming one of the youngest officers to be promoted to captain and commanding his own naval ship. After retiring from the Navy in 1974, he continued to serve his country as the captain of a dredging ship, playing a crucial role in the groundbreaking construction of Taichung Harbor.
In 1984, seeking new opportunities, Ker Ting and his family emigrated to the United States, eventually making their home in Churchville, PA. There, his entrepreneurial spirit led to him owning and operating several restaurants and a bar. In 1994, his ventures took him back to China, where he ran various enterprises, including restaurants, bars, and a hotel.
In 1997, Ker Ting moved to California and embarked on a new career as a general contractor, from which he retired in 2001. He left behind a legacy of hard work and resilience.
Ker Ting will be deeply missed by those who knew him. He is survived by his four children, Kelly, Julie, Donna, and John; his six grandchildren; and his siblings, Ker Kong, Ker Xing, Ker Jia (Kathy), and Ker Hwa (Susan).
An intimate graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to U.S.C. Arcadia Hospital in his memory, where he spent his final days under their expert and comforting care.
