Karen Trinh, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, in Monterey Park, California. She was born on July 3, 1936, in Guangdong, China, and later made her home in the United States initially Denton, TX and then later moving to Southern California, where she dedicated herself to raising her family with her husband.
Karen was a quiet and simple woman who lived a low-key life, focused on supporting her loved ones through her quiet acts of care. She was a devoted housewife who found fulfillment in taking care of the home and assisting her husband in whatever way was needed. While she was not one for grand gestures, her love was evident in the little things she did every day—whether through casual conversations, thoughtful questions about her family’s well-being, or preparing delicious meals for those she loved.
Although she was not one to openly express her emotions, Karen’s presence spoke for itself. She was known for her casual and lighthearted demeanor, care free attitude, and her ability to bring comfort through her cooking. After her husband's passing, she began to showcase her culinary talents. She was especially known for her famous homemade XO Chili Sauce. While the spicy aroma of her chili sauce would send everyone scrambling to avoid the fumes, it was a small price to pay for her to create this rich, flavorful condiment that added an irresistible kick to any dish.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Doreen Tong; her sons, Tommy Cheng and Philip Cheng; and her grandchildren, Adam Zoen, Andrea Zoen, Alyson Tong, Samantha Tong, Cory Cheng, and Kailey Cheng. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hung Trinh, and her daughter, Winnie Zoen.
A private memorial service will be held in her honor."
