Janet Louise Gorton, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024 at her home in Hacienda Heights. She was surrounded by loved ones as she entered into heaven just days before her 90th birthday.
Janet grew up in Eagle Rock, California and was a proud graduate of Eagle Rock High School, class of 1952. Her marriage to Howard Gorton produced three beautiful children, and she dedicated her life to them and many other neighborhood children, since her goal in life was to be a mother.
Music was one passion of Janet’s life; she played the piano, the violin and she loved to sing. Her other hobbies included collecting animals, going to the beach, eating out, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, watching Jeopardy and the Dodger games. But by far, her biggest passion was spending time with her family and friends.
As a career woman, she excelled in administrative skills, contributing to many companies as a clerk in payroll and accounting departments. After retiring and caring for her parents, she became part of the Senior Pathfinders Group in Rowland Heights, where she made many lifelong friends and happy memories. She enjoyed coordinating trips, luncheons and special events for the group for many years.
Janet is home in heaven now, and was welcomed by her Savior and loved ones who preceded her. These include her loving parents, Paul and Louise Peppin, and her two brothers, Bruce and David Peppin. She is survived by her children, Robin Haydon (Randy), John Gorton (Jennie), and Debbie Brown (Sonney); her nine grandchildren: Brandon (Nichole), Tawnya (Trevor), Tiffany, Nathan, Jenelle (Bryan), Jill (Daniel), Joel, Matt (Candice), Michael, and by love, Melina. She also leaves fourteen great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Hunter, Amabella, Adeliza, Avalina, Azrelius, Abelethem, Samsunn, Trace, Gunner, Wesley, John, Abbie and Liam.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:00am in the Hillside Chapel at Rose Hills Cemetery (3888 Workman Mill Rd. Gate 17, Whittier, California). The service will be followed by a joyous reception nearby at Puente Valley Fellowship, located at 510 5th Avenue, La Puente to reminisce and honor Janet’s life.
Janet will be laid to rest in Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601; Garden of Reflection Lawn; Gate: 1, Section: 3, Lot: 1819, Grave: 1.
