It feels strange to write this without hearing your familiar chuckle at the end of the phone line.  I miss your stories, your wisdom, and your gentle way of making everyone feel loved.  You had a heart of gold, Grandpa, and it shone through in everything you did.
 
I remember how you always had time for me, even when you were busy.  You'd sit with me, listen patiently, and offer advice that came from a place of deep understanding.  You taught me the importance of kindness, compassion, and always looking out for others.  You showed me what it meant to be a good person, and I'll carry those lessons with me always.
 
 It was a moment that perfectly captured the essence of who you were.  You had a way of making everyone feel special, and I'm so grateful for the love and support you gave me.
 
Though you're gone, your spirit lives on in the hearts of everyone who knew you.  You left a legacy of kindness and love that will continue to inspire us all.  I'll always cherish the memories we made together, Grandpa.

On behalf of the Espino Langas family, our sincere condolences on the passing of Lolo Boy.  Ninety-eight years of a live so well lived. We should all be lucky to have his legacy.

What is that legacy?

For my family, he was one of two uncles my dad approached when my dad wanted to attend college but did not have the means to accomplish that goal. With Lolo Boy's guidance and advice, my dad joined the Philippine Navy, meeting my mom and finishing his degree in Accounting at night school, rising to the rank of Commander before he retired, becoming the first one in his immediate family to obtain a college degree, and cementing a middle-class life for my mom, myself, and my brother.

He was my career and financial advisor when I immigrated to the States at 23 years old; my silent referee on the many disagreements that I had with my dad; and, I am certain, the force behind my dad either making me sticky garlic chicken wings or ironing my work clothes to signal a truce.

He was the Ely of the Kodiak Island (Alaska) Safeway family, showing the not-so-motivated younger staff work ethic -- with pride in every job well done. Many wondered where he got his stamina. I know that it comes from making sure that his family is taken care of because he is a father, first and foremost, however old his children may be.

I know there are so many more examples of his quiet strength, dignity, and pride. We will miss him and pray that his soul finds rest although, in the typical Lolo Boy fashion, he may already be looking for extra things to keep him occupied in heaven.

Pia, the only daughter of Tatay as we call him, was a good friend from university and we're still good friends to this date.  Her Nanay is our wedding Godmother.  We hold Nanay and Tatay and Pia's whole family in our hearts.

We know Tatay had been a symbol of love not just to his family but to ours as well.

You lived a good life, Tatay, and now, our Dear Lord is ready to receive you in your next life.   You will always be in our hearts.

The first time I talked to Tatay Boy ( my Tatay called him ‘Boy’) was maybe 8-9 years ago. He said he moved from Alaska to Seattle to stay with his son and he was looking for my Tatay.  Tatay Boy was one of my Tatay’s good friends. We had such a good talked it lasted like 30 mins. It was the very first time we talked and we never met each other but kuwentuhan kami like old friends. From our talk, I knew that He and Tatay go way back. 

And now that he’s gone, Tatay lost another one of his good friends. For sure Tatay will miss him and their regular video calls.

To Pia, Leo and the whole family, our deepest sympathies on the passing of Tatay Boy. 
May you all find peace and comfort knowing that he is with the Lord now.

I was so happy to see you after 14 years! I still remembered your face, so surprised to see us in front of your door step.  Thankful to you because I was able to visit Seattle Washington. The only place I missed visiting you was Alaska.  You are in a better place now with the rest of your parents and siblings and their spouses and with my Tatay too. I lost him exactly 8 months when you passed.

California visit, I am so thankful to you because I was able to visit California and spent time with you and Inang Lourdes, Tita Pia and Steph’s family.

GOD has decided to send you home so I honor, appreciate and pay tribute to the great man you were.

Lolo Boy touched the hearts of many by his kindness, generosity and unconditional love.
It hurts to have lost him but  I will carry you with me always!

It has been a great loss for all of us but Lolo’s journey of 98 years has been nothing but memorable moments. May lolo rest in peace beside our Lord God. He is someone we will miss and love dearly. He will be forever remembered in our hearts and I have always been grateful for all he has done for me and my family. Thank you Lolo for helping me be who I am today.  I will always keep you in my prayers. I will miss you and love you always!
