Eleanor Mae Breland Collier Hawkins has joined so many of her family who are forever in the presence of God. She was born on December 2, 1925 in Savannah, Georgia during a snowstorm that forced the doctor to leave his buggy on a main road and walk to the house. Her mother always joked that Ellie was so tiny, she could have fit in a coffee pot!
When Eleanor was a toddler, the family moved to Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, New York where she lived for many years. Her parents also welcomed four boys to the family, William (aka Breezy), Alfred, Gerald and Riccardo. As a young adult, Eleanor married Harold Collier, and they had six children, Harold Glen, Pamela Lorraine, Gordon Curtis, Barry Keith, Kim Mae, and William Gerald. After divorcing Harold Collier, Eleanor later married Leonard Hawkins and gave birth to her seventh child, Leonard Jr.
In 1969, they moved to Roosevelt, Long Island and enjoyed many years there, entertaining family and hosting many wonderful pool parties. Eleanor retired in 1986 after working for AT&T for more than 30 years. She and Leonard moved to Cerritos, California where they thrived in the sunshine and traveled extensively until his passing in 1991.
Eleanor leaves behind many loved ones who celebrate her life and mourn her loss, including her brother Riccardo, her sons, Harold (Ping), Barry (Cheryl), and Leonard, her grandchildren, Jamil (Stacey), Gregory, Shane (Christina), Marisa, Courtney, Kenosha, and Tai, her great-grandchildren, Sky, William, Ibrahim, Muhamed, Lucinda, Malik, Akaya, Jahleak, Kwami, William, Ricky, Shane II, Christian, Jace, Mason, Maddox, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Eleanor will be deeply missed, but her family takes comfort in the fact that she is reunited with many beloved family members who have gone before her.
It's with our Deepest Sympathy to Announce the Home Going Of Our Mother Mrs. Eleanor M.Hawkins , She was a Angel sent Here to Guide us Her Children, Family Members & Friends to a Better understanding of Love & Forgiveness. She'll always be in our Hearts. The Collier, Hawkins Children.
