Devayani Trivedi, 77, of Bellflower, Calif., passed away peacefully on Aug. 18, 2024, surrounded by her devoted sons following complications from breast cancer. Born on Jan. 1, 1947, in Dakor, Gujarat, India, Devayani lived a full life and was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She moved to the United States in 1971 where she got married, and worked as a lab technician at Holy Cross Hospital in Des Plaines, Ill., and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Villa Park, Ill. She welcomed her first son, Kashyap, in 1974, and her second son, Nirmal, in 1977. Soon after the birth of her first son, Devayani began to suffer from schizophrenia. Despite this and the end of her marriage, Devayani remained fiercely independent and self-reliant right up until her passing.
Devayani was known for her love of arts and culture. She enjoyed painting, singing, and dancing to her favorite Hindi songs like “Dream Girl.” Her home was filled with drawings of loved ones, family mementos, and gifts ready to be wrapped. She always found occasions to shower her family with presents and her homemade food.
Friends and family will remember her for her kindness, generosity, and determination. When she set her mind to something, nothing could stop her. Her passion for life will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Devayani is survived by her sons, Kashyap Trivedi (and spouse, Shyamala Moorty) of Long Beach, Calif., Nirmal Trivedi (and spouse, Hillary Pritchett) of Boston, Mass.; and grandchildren, Roshan, Sibel, and Leyla.
