Delia Avila Galarza

Delia Avila Galarza, maiden name Delia Avila, was born on August 24, 1940, in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, to Gabino Avila and Maria Perez. She grew up in a large family of eighteen children, nine brothers and nine sisters. Delia moved to Southern California in the late 1960’s, where she met Ruben Galarza in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles. They were married on February 4th, 1968, in Oxnard, CA, and settled in together in Los Angeles, where she spent the rest of her life. Her love story with her husband lasted for 56 years, throughout the joys and challenges of life, leading to the birth of her two sons, Ruben Galarza Jr. and Jose Galarza, and eventually, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Delia loved to cook, a gift passed down from her indigenous grandmother to her and her sisters from generations before. Her delicious plates of pipian were such a delightful experience. She had an amazing eye for fashion and loved to dress in her own style, so original that she would turn the heads of everyone who saw her, even in her eighties. She loved to embrace her beauty and confidence as a trendsetter, wearing beautiful indigenous dresses with bright colors and big flowers and her trademark hairstyle.

But, most of all, Delia’s legacy is her deep love and devotion for her family and those close to her-- a mother that lived to give everything to her family in such a humble way, gifting love to provide the beauty her sons required to become good human beings.

Delia Galarza transitioned peacefully to be with the ancestors on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, at 6:55pm, at 84 years old. She is survived by her husband, Ruben Galarza, her two sons, Ruben Jr. and Jose, her grandchildren, Ruben Little Wolf, Sky Morning Star, Randy Red Cedar, and Milla Ray Tecalli, and her two great grandchildren, Dakota Lichen and Luna. Of her siblings, she is survived by her brothers Raymundo, Hector and Jesus “Chuy”, and her sister Raquel. All of this is in honor of the legacy she leaves with her husband, children, grandchildren and great children.

Le encantaba abrazar su belleza y confianza como creadora de tendencias, luciendo hermosos vestidos indígenas con colores brillantes y flores grandes y su peinado característico.

Pero, sobre todo, el legado de Delia es su profundo amor y devoción por su familia y sus seres queridos: una madre que vivió para dar todo a su familia de una manera tan humilde, regalando amor para brindar la belleza que sus hijos necesitaban para convertirse en buenos seres humanos.

Delia Galarza pasó pacíficamente a estar con sus ancestros el martes 3 de diciembre de 2024 a las 6:55 p.m., a las 84 años de edad. Le sobreviven su esposo, Rubén Galarza, sus dos hijos, Rubén Jr. y José, sus nietos, Rubén Little Wolf, Sky Morning Star, Randy Red Cedar y Milla Ray Tecalli, tanto como sus dos bisnietos, Dakota Lichen y Luna. De sus hermanos, le sobreviven sus hermanos Raymundo, Héctor y Jesús “Chuy”, y su hermana Raquel. Todo esto es en honor al legado que deja con su esposo, hijos, nietos y bisnietos.
