Carol Dam Thomas

Loving mother of Christie; proud grandmother of William and Emma; loving daughter of Kim (deceased) and Cuong (deceased); loving wife of Francis (deceased); dear sister of Hung (deceased); dear sister-in law of Lang; dear aunt of Steven (Rowena), Tiffany (Jim) and Michael (Catherine); and dear grand aunt of Zoren.

Carol Thomas (82) passed away on August 12, 2021 after suffering from a hemorrhagic stroke. She was born in Saigon, Vietnam and moved to the United States in 1978 for a better life following the fall of Saigon. Carol worked hard to be financially independent throughout her life when many women were housewives and stay-at-home mothers. In Vietnam, she worked for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and had her own Vietnamese sandwich business after the war. In the United States, she worked at The Hon Company until 2009 where her service was recognized by the company. Carol was a hard worker and was the main provider for her daughter and herself as well as her parents while they were alive. She was also fiercely independent, tackling many challenges that life threw in her way by herself. At the same time, Carol was thankful whenever help was given to her and acknowledged it graciously.

Carol was an active person and did not like to stay at home every day. She exercised regularly at different fitness centers. It was not uncommon for Carol to walk over 5 miles a day. She was adventurous and a fan of exploring the greater Los Angeles and Chicago area by bus. The past eighteen months were an especially difficult time for her since COVID prevented Carol from doing what she liked to do.

Carol was a nice and generous person to her relatives, friends and neighbors. She always offered help when needed and performed many little things that make a person’s life easier. During her retirement years, Carol visited her daughter Christie’s family and attended their activities like her grandson William’s concerts. She also made outfits for her granddaughter Emma. Carol was much loved by her nephews and niece and participated in the celebration of all their special occasions throughout their lives. Carol will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral Service: Friday, August 27, 2021, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at the Memorial Chapel at Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601. Dinner after service at 5:00pm at Ho Kee Cafe, 558 Las Tunas Drive, Arcadia, CA 91007.
