Deepest, most sorrowful condolences to the family of Alfredo Vargas. 
I first found Alfredo in 1999 with my deceased father's small wallet. I wanted to get it engraved with my dad's and my initials. Alfredo suggested I get a new wallet but because it was sentimental, he understood so readily.
From that event, I wanted  him in my life forever. I suggested to my husband that he take his shoes for repair, re-soles, etc. They became better friends because of m husband's very wide feet and need for constant repairs and Alfredo actually forgot me! 
Then I took a satchel for a friend which was in greatest disrepair but it was also a matter of sentimental value.  Alfedo took the entire satchel apart, relining and adding new leather to parts. An unbelievable end product was received and his price was so small, I had to give him double as a tip. Alfredo was reluctant, but I INSISTED.
Alfredo would often talk about having to leave early to pick up his wife. I would wait forever for him. I worked in downtown Los Angeles, but even when I retired, my husband or I would make the 60 mile one way drive to be with him. 
We only recently found that he left for his leather pathway to the stars and have only tears and sadness. 
I am trying to find his family to take a little memento in his honor.

I'm so very sorry about the unexpected (to his customers) loss of Alfredo,  I have taken my athletic shoes to him for years - he had this "special fix" for the heels to keep them going for a long time. He was so friendly, helpful, patient and reasonably priced.  I don't know how he ever found my shoes since he had shoes everywhere!  - but he always found mine immediately. My condolences to his family, close friends and his loyal customers of so many years. He will be dearly missed.

Several weeks ago, I stopped by the shoe repair shop , the sign said closed ! I found this odd because you were always working.   As days passed, sign still said closed.  Then I saw your photo on the shop gate along with flowers!  A state of shock struck, with tears of pain.  You were one of the best! Attending to your community. You were always fair and  oh what a talent! You could fix anything!  Heaven has definitely gained and Angel! 
May you rest in peace. And thank you for all you did for all of us here on earth!

Nosotros lo conocimos cuando el tomó las riendas del negocio pues anteriormente conocimos al padre del señor Alfredo. Está ya siendo extrañado por muchos y en especial por uds su familia. I am sorry for your loss. The community has lost a wonderful craftsman. I had known Alfredo for close to 10 years. I always appreciated our visits even though they were short. 

I am going to miss him a lot. His insight on life was a bonus to the work he performed. I have been blessed to have know him.
